6 Fixes For Summer-Ready Skin

5. Keratosis Pilaris

Keratosis Pilaris is a fancy name for little bumps that appear all along your thighs, arms, face, and buttocks. It is mostly caused by a skin protein called keratin which blocks hair follicles from growing, according to the National Institutes of Health (NHS). They also say that ruptured hair follicles may also cause the appearance of red and white inflamed bumps on the skin.

While certainly not pleasant to look at, you may have a surprisingly simple solution – moisturizing and exfoliation. Something as simple as using a loofah or shower puff can help get rid of them. A deep moisturizing cream (check ingredients for retinol) will also help soften and tone the affected areas.

6. Scarring

Your body accumulates scars from a whole bunch of different reasons throughout your life, but you can’t let them keep you from showing off your beach bod! Scars typically disappear over time, but if you’ve got some that are particularly stubborn or you want to get rid of them stat, a dermatologist will be able to help.

According to WebMD, some scars can be eliminated with the help of prescription or over-the-counter creams. Others may need a more in-depth approach like collagen fillers, dermabrasion, laser treatments, or even steroid injections as is with the case of kleroid scars that typically protrude. It’s always best to get an expert’s opinion to prevent further scarring.
