7 Essential Post-Workout Hair Care Tips

Going to the gym is not as glamorous an affair as TV and movies might show us, especially when it comes to hair and makeup. While there are a few ways to make sure you look good while going (and leaving) the gym, like picking the right hairstyle, it’s also important to maintain good hair health.

Here are 7 essential post-workout hair care tips, whether it be working out at home, going for a simple walk, or putting your gym membership to good use.

1. Sun Protection

Just like you would wear sunscreen on your skin if you are going to be out and about in the sun, if you are planning on working out outside, you will want to protect your hair as well. Regular exposure to the sun can cause a dry and itchy scalp, but it can even end up causing headaches. Lightweight SPF is essential in this scenario as it protects your hair against sun damage.

2. Dry Shampoo Error

A lot of people who don’t have time for a shower after a workout think they can get away with dry shampoo. And they can, but it’s important to let your hair dry completely of any sweat before applying it. Dry shampoo is specifically designed to be applied on dry hair, so slathering it on sweaty hair won’t do you much good.

3. Limit Use of Shampoo

Telling you not to shampoo your hair every day might sound gross, but it’s more than enough to wash your hair with water for a couple days in between shampooing. In fact, shampooing your hair every single day can actually end up hurting it by drying your hair’s natural oils, drawing out moisture, and maybe even causing a buildup of product. Conditioner, on the other hand, will moisturize your hair and can be used every day (although you do not need to).
